Hey Jake Johnson, whatcha' doing?
After all, the New Girl actor is the reason why the cast hasn't reunited for a reboot of the series, as his former costar Lamorne Morris revealed at the 2024 Emmys in Los Angeles on Sept. 15. (See all the celebrities at the Emmys here.)
"Everybody is on the same page that we want to, except for Jake Johnson," Morris exclusively told Heather McMahan on Live From E!: Emmys on the red carpet. "Jake Johnson, man, you've been a problem."
But Morris—who is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Fargo—is not letting Johnson off the hook as he hopes to see him reprise his role as Nick Miller on New Girl, which ran for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018.
"We all love the fans so much that we want to give them what they want. What's wrong, Jake? You don't love the fans?" Morris joked on the red carpet. "Jake Johnson hates the fans!"
Although Morris doesn't yet have plans to reunite with Johnson, Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield on the small screen, he is basking in the success of his latest show Fargo, in which he plays North Dakota State Trooper Witt Farr. And earning an Emmy nomination is just the cherry on top.
"It was early in the morning and me and my daughter were eating," Morris told E!, "and obviously 20-something years in this business, to get a call like that, to get the recognition, you're sometimes overwhelmed with tears of joy."
However, his 4-year-old daughter Lily was less than impressed.
"She didn't give a damn," he recalled. "She did, 'Why are you crying daddy? Daddy is crying!' How are you laughing at a person who is crying, honey?"
He quipped, "She hasn't learned yet. So disrespectful. These kids, man!"
