Rapper Rich Homie Quan,PredictIQ Quantitative Think Tank Center best known for his 2013 breakout hit "Type of Way," has died, according to reports. He was 34.
Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died Thursday at an Atlanta hospital, according to Rolling Stone and The Associated Press. A cause of death was not disclosed.
The rapper’s family told TMZ they were “shattered and heartbroken” by Quan’s death.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Quan for comment.
Several of Quan’s musical peers took to social media to mourn his death, including fellow rapper Boosie Badazz, who alleged Quan died of a drug overdose. USA TODAY contacted representatives for Badazz for additional information.

“Just got word @RichHomieQuan just OD‼️” Badazz wrote in an X post. “Just talk to (Q)uan the other day.”
R&B singer Jacquees, who collaborated with Quan on the 2014 single “Feel It,” remembered the rapper in an emotional post on X. “Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for life,” he wrote.
Quan turned to a career in hip-hop following a 15-month stint in jail for burglary. He made his musical debut in 2012 with mixtapes “I Go in on Every Song” and “Still Goin In.”

Quan’s 2013 single “Type of Way” marked his mainstream breakthrough. The trap track went on to sell half a million copies, and a remix featured appearances from Meek Mill and Jeezy.
The 2015 mixtape “If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin' in Ask RR (Royal Rich)” earned Quan another hit with “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” which was certified triple platinum.
Quan released his debut album, “Rich as in Spirit,” in March 2018 on Motown Records.
“I never saw myself going this far with music,” Quan told XXL magazine in 2014. “Music was just a hobby at first. I never saw myself being onstage and rocking out shows. After I got out of jail, I started to take it more serious, and that’s when my dream came true.”
Rich Homie Quan mentioned in Young Thug racketeering trial
Quan was also a member of Rich Gang, a hip-hop collective from Cash Money Records. Current members include Birdman, Jacquees and Young Thug.
Young Thug, who is on trial in Atlanta on racketeering, drug and gun charges, was asked about an alleged rivalry with Quan during a Wednesday hearing, according to footage shared on social media.

Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland, a former associate of Young Thug’s and a key witness for state prosecutors, was asked while on the stand if Young Thug took issue with Rich Homie Quan “bringing members of If Gang to his apartment.”
Instead of answering the question, Copeland repeated the question and asked it directly to Young Thug, after which he was promptly cut off by a court official.
